St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station

Overview
During the landmark 2019 renovation of St. Louis Union Station, Gravois Planing Mill was commissioned to partner with Waterhout Construction to create a number of specialty fixtures, entry portals, and other elements for the highly anticipated St. Louis Aquarium.
Drawing from classical elements of Union Station’s architectural history, Gravois Planing Mill created the new Aquarium’s ticket counters, replete with detailed moulding and corbel accents. In the Grand Lobby, the team created oversized arches to welcome visitors to the space while nodding at the classic “TO TRAINS” archways still visible throughout the historic space. Thoughtful details, like a round porthole-inspired window in the adjacent gift shop, required special attention to trim out. These elements bring whimsy and a nod toward the aquatic to a landmark building entering its newest iteration.
