Saint Louis Art Museum

Overview
When Saint Louis Art Museum undertook the most ambitious expansion in the museum’s history to create what is now the East Wing, multiple construction partners were called to work in tandem to realize the modern addition to the original 1904 building. Tarlton Corporation, Pepper Construction, and KAI Enterprises selected Gravois Planing Mill to outfit the new space, creating some of the first touchpoints that visitors see as they enter the museum.
Gravois Planing Mill worked with Tarlton, Pepper and KAI to furnish the museum’s new entrance corridor with the modern, metal-clad desks that anchor and define the space. The distinctive metal design mimics the exterior of the new addition, designed by London architect David Chipperfield, and makes for a memorable entry into the expanded galleries. In addition to creating the information desks, the team was tasked with furnishing key parts of the museum’s restaurant, including the waitstaff stations and bar. These new touchpoints in key visitor spaces bring modern amenities to this treasured historic building, the majority of which was originally constructed for the 1904 World’s Fair.
