Knese Family Residential Buttress Project

Overview
Tasked with adding historic detail to a magnificent double-height, open-plan living space, Gravois Planing Mill partnered with the architects at LNB Studio to create an elaborate scheme of buttresses, window casework, and dormer trim. The result is a bold and striking focal point that draws the eye upward and lends character to this multipurpose heart of the home.
Adding definition to the expansive double-height space required an interconnected system of trims, window casing, decorative buttresses, and other joinery. LNB studio’s architects drafted a plan that Gravois Planing Mill was able to execute with a series of products including poplar and plywood. The team worked closely with the architects to deliver joinery and millwork that feels like an extension of the original floorplan, accentuating the demilune windows and providing much-needed substance and structure to the design. The final millwork “pops” against the pale periwinkle ceiling, giving this under-utilized ceiling space a “reason for being.”
